The current processes around Project Specifications may feel tiring and have a steep learning curve for novices. Recent advances in natural language processing (NLP), such as ChatGPT, enable human-like interaction with AI-bots that can quickly parse large amounts of text. We hypothesize that incorporating Conversational AI into product submittal reviews can lead to quicker responses, improve the interaction between project teams and project manuals, and aid less-experienced designers in navigating project manuals. In this work, we conducted a series of interviews with experts within the firm, designed an AI-assisted workflow for reviewing submittals, and tested the workflow in a user study. Results show that users prefer the AI-assisted workflow compared to traditional processes.
